Transport Canada > TC, Atlantic Region-Air Transport

The Airports group of Transport Canada currently owns and operates two Airports in the Atlantic Region.  In addition, the Airports group administers an "Airports Capital Assistance Program" to assist non-federal airports.

The principal mandate of the Airports group is to implement the National Airports Policy announced in July 1994.  Under this policy, federal airports will be transferred to local entities or Canadian Airport Authorities.  Until their transfer is effected, the Airports group will continue to operate and manage these airports in accordance with departmental safety and security requirements.  Post transfer, Transport Canada's mandate will change from one of owner/operator to one of a landlord/regulator.  The Airports Capital Assistance Program will be continued with respect to the non-federally-owned airports.
