The System Safety branch is responsible for the evaluation of the safety
of the aviation transportation system in Atlantic Canada and the conduct of aviation
safety promotional activities both within and outside the Department. It maintains a
continuing program of risk assessment and trend analysis of aviation incidents within the
Region.
Visits: System Safety continuously evaluates the aviation
system and identifies areas of high risk, in part by studying reports from such sources as
the Civil Aviation Daily Occurence Reports and the Transportation Safety Board; and in
part by maintaining close links with the aviation community through the conduct of safety
seminars, training programs, safety visits, safety surveys, and safety reviews.
CASARA: System Safety provides the Transport Canada support to
the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA), a nation-wide volunteer aviation
association dedicated to promoting aviation safety and providing aircraft and crews to
support the National Search and Rescue Program.
