Led
by Transport Canada, the Freight Efficiency Program (FEP) is a four-year
initiative that aims to reduce greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions by Canada’s
freight-transportation sector. The FEP administers the Freight Incentives
Program (FIP), provides funding for marine-shore power pilots, and delivers
awareness programs for shippers and freight forwarders. The Freight Incentives Program The Freight Incentives Program (FIP) provides financial support to enable the purchase and installation of GHG-reduction technology and equipment. Funding under the program is available to companies in the rail, marine and aviation freight transportation sectors. Find out more >>.
Marine shore Power Pilots The Marine shore Power Pilots Program will fund the installation of marine shore power at suitable locations across Canada. Possible locations will be identified by March 2005. Selection of candidate locations will be through a competitive process, and based on a facility’s activities, potential for GHG reductions, and potential to operate marine-shore power cost-effectively. Funding is available for as many as three pilot projects.
Awareness Programs for Shippers and Freight Forwarders Aimed at people who buy
transportation services for themselves or for clients, this initiative endeavors
to increase awareness of the environmental, economic and other benefits of
different transportation choices. These awareness programs will strengthen
environmental considerations when freight transportation decisions are being
made. Where possible, the programs will also be used to identify barriers to the
adoption of environmentally friendly alternative methods of shipping, and
develop recommendations to overcome them.
