Foreign Affairs Canada has long been involved in initiatives to develop multilateral
responses to international crime and terrorism. In recognition of the growing
international crime and terrorism agenda Foreign Affairs created the International
Crime and Terrorism Division (AGC) in 1999. We work closely with a wide range
of other Government Departments and Agencies to provide foreign policy coherence
and leadership to Canada’s international efforts to address the crime
and terrorism threat. These efforts are focussed in multilateral fora such as
the G8 and the UN, and through various bilateral and regional relationships.
For more information on where the work of the International Crime and Terrorism
Division fits into the broader mandate of the Government of Canada to ensure
the safety and security of Canadians, please visit the Public
Safety Portal in the main Canada website.
The RCMP recently announced that it has established a National Security Tip
Line in support of the international fight against terrorism and to help ensure
the safety and security of Canadians. The public is encouraged to use this toll-free
number to report any information regarding terrorism, criminal extremism or
suspicious activities which could pose a threat to national safety and security.
The number is: 1-800-420-5805.
