Transport of dangerous goods
Transport of dangerous goods

  • Intermodal management of the transport of dangerous goods
  • Sea movement of dangerous goods (in packaged form)

Transport Canada’s responsibility mainly covers regulatory requirements in the highly specialized field of dangerous goods transport, including explosives, compressed gas cylinders and flammable products in packaged form on board ships departing from or arriving in Canada or sailing within Canada.

Ship inspectors are responsible for inspecting dangerous goods, ensuring that cargo plans have been approved, that the goods have been properly segregated on the ships and that the packaging of parcels in holds and containers complies with standards.

Most of the regulatory requirements are set out in the IMDG (International Management of Dangerous Goods) Code.
