Urban Studies

Consultants, at the request of Transport Canada and with the guidance of the study steering committee, prepared three studies dealing with different aspects of the urban transit industry. These studies, Vision for Urban Transit, Urban Transit and Cost-Benefit Framework, have been prepared in order to obtain a better understanding of the transit industry in Canada.

The topics covered include: developing a strategic vision for urban transit, the current state of the Canadian transit industry, and an analytical framework to assist in the assessment of alternative transit investments. These studies build on the work of the Transportation Climate Change Table (Transportation and Climate Change: Options for Action) and the report of the Canada Transportation Act review panel.

The members of the steering committee included: the Canadian Urban Transit Association, Federation of Canadian Municipalities, and the federal departments of Environment, Finance, Industry and Natural Resources.

PLEASE NOTE: these studies are distributed for discussion purposes only. The views and findings of these studies are the opinions of the consultants and do not necessarily represent the views of Transport Canada or any of the study steering committee members.

Any questions or comments should be directed to climatechange@tc.gc.ca.
