What we do?

The regional Security and Emergency Preparedness Directorate has responsibilities with respect to all transport modes: air, marine and rail.

The main objective of the Directorate is to protect the national transportation system against illicit acts, to be prepared to respond in the event of civil emergency and to protect the Department's core property and services.

It also monitors compliance with regulatory requirements with regard to multi-modal security, carries out inspections to verify compliance, and promotes security to the general public and within Transport Canada.

The Directorate also implements the regional program to plan and co-ordinate emergency planning, to ensure that the Department responds appropriately in emergency situations where it would be expected to provide direction or support.

The Directorate is also responsible for the corporate security program for the entire Department, and ensures that all staff comply with this program.
