Flight Tests

The Flight Training Standards Personnel, Quebec region, manages all the flight tests to obtain a Flight Instructor Rating, aeroplane and Helicopter Categories, as well as the initial and renewal flight tests for the Instrument Flight Rating (IFR) intended for the qualified Flight Instructors.

The candidates who trained more than 50% of their flight training by a certified flying school, on the aircraft of this same school, must pass the flight test (recreational, private and commercial) with a Pilot Examiner appointed by Transport Canada.

On the other hand, the candidates having been trained by an Independent Instructor or having carried out more than 50% of flight training on their aircraft must pass their flight test with an Inspector of Transport Canada,  in order to obtain a Recreational Pilot Permit, Private and Commercial Licence or Multi Engine and Instrument Flight Rating.

Certain Flight Test Prerequisites must be met for the admission, a letter of recommendation (PDF Format) per example, and the conduct of all flight tests including the established standards, documents in which you will also find advices in order to guide the candidates for a flight test.

For the flight test administration, the Flight Instructors only must take an APPOINTMENT with the Flight Training Standards, Dorval Regional Office, by telephone (514) 633-3240.  The designated personnel is in charge of the booking for all flight tests in the Quebec region in order to give the best possible service.
