This Division is responsible for:

  • Evaluating requests from NAV CANADA, Serco Aviation Services Inc., and other air navigation service providers for deviations from prescribed operational standards and ATC separation minima;
  • Providing guidance and interpretations regarding the application of operational standards;
  • Conducting audits and inspections to assess and verify compliance with CARS requirements regarding air traffic services;
  • Providing technical advice in the review and evaluation of aeronautical studies developed by air navigation service providers;
  • Studying aviation occurrence data, analyzing trends, identifying risk indicators, assessing risk and recommending control measures for the provision of safe air traffic services;
  • Overseeing the training and competency of air traffic controllers and flight service specialists; and
  • Contributing to the development of international air traffic services standards and practices.
