The intent of this two-day information session is to provide details on the implementation of the safety management systems (SMS) regulations.
Transport Canada is committed to the implementation of SMS in aviation organizations. Holders of Transport Canada issued Civil Aviation Documents will be required to implement a safety management system. The expected result of this initiative is the improvement of safety practices fostering stronger safety cultures within the civil aviation industry.

Objectives of the Session

The objectives of this information session are to provide registrants with:

  • basic information on SMS implementation;
  • an overview of the SMS and accountable executive regulations;
  • an update on exemptions and implementation phases;
  • the opportunity to exchange information and best practices.

Target Audience

The implementation date for various Parts of the Canadian Aviation Regulations vary based on the progress of the Notice of Proposed Amendments (NPA) through the regulatory system. The target audience of this session is airports, air navigation services, air operators that operate aircraft under Subpart 705 of the CARs and aircraft maintenance organizations that perform maintenance on aircraft eligible to be operated under subpart 705 of the CARs.

Persons responsible for implementing the SMS are encouraged to attend.
