The intent of this two-day information session was to provide details on the implementation of the safety management systems (SMS) regulations that came in-force on June 15, 2005.

Objectives of the Session

The objectives of this information session were to provide registrants with:

  • a status update of the Phase I SMS requirements;
  • basic information on SMS implementation and upcoming SMS requirements;
  • an overview of the SMS and accountable executive regulations, and
  • the opportunity to exchange information and best practices.

Target Audience

The implementation date for various Parts of the Canadian Aviation Regulations vary based on the progress of the Notice of Proposed Amendments (NPA) through the regulatory system. The target audience of this session was air operators that operate aircraft under Subpart 704 and 705 of the CARs and aircraft maintenance organizations that perform maintenance on aircraft eligible to be operated under subpart 704 and 705 of the CARs.

Persons responsible for implementing the SMS were encouraged to attend.
