Notice with Respect to Perfluorocarbons

Perfluorocarbons, replacements for ozone-depleting substances, are a class of substances that have intrinsic global warming potential, and are included as one of the six key greenhouse gases listed in the Kyoto Protocol.

On September 22, 2001, Environment Canada published a notice with respect to hydrofluorocarbons in the Canada Gazette Part I, pursuant to paragraph 71(1)(b) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999.

The notice requires companies, to whom the notice refers, to provide information specified in the notice to the Minister of the Environment no later than November 15, 2001.

The information will assist Environment Canada to understand the use of these substances and to assess the need for control strategies.
