NPRI Reporting Software
|
If you are running any version of Windows (9x or NT) other than Windows 2000 or Windows XP, you may be asked to restart your system up to two times during the installation process. Once will be for the installation of the Windows Installer package and once for the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC). These restarts are required for the installation and for the software to properly function. |
NOTE: Windows NT, 2000, XP users
You may not be able to install the NPRI Reporting Software if you do not have sufficient privileges to do so, or if your company has security policies in place that prevent it. Normally, if your system has Windows 2000 service pack 1 or Windows XP installed, ‘Power User' privilege should be sufficient to install this software. If service package 1 has not been installed on your system, you may be required to have ‘Administrators' privilege and be asked to restart your system once for the NPRI Reporting Software to be successfully installed. |

Users of Windows with Multi-user Logins
Testing revealed a problem in MDAC 2.5, which was confirmed by Microsoft, and may impact users of Windows 95 whose systems are set up to permit multiple user login profiles with individual user preferences being retained. (Microsoft did not confirm the existence of this problem with other versions of Windows 9x.) An example of this would be a machine used by two people who have selected individual settings such as wallpaper, cursors, colours, sounds, etc. After installation, some of the user preferences may be changed or missing. While annoying, this problem is not destructive and data and operability of the PC are not at risk.
To avoid this problem, you can:
go to the Microsoft Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/data/download_260rtm.htm and manually install MDAC 2.6 prior to installation of the NPRI software |
|
OR | |
after installation of the NPRI software, remove the following key from the Windows registry which Microsoft indicates should correct the problem: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ |
Users of Microsoft Access
After installation of the NPRI software, other Visual Basic applications looking in Access databases for data that contains trailing spaces will no longer find the data sought. This is due to the trailing spaces being truncated. An example of this would be a field in an Access database containing the text "Apple " instead of "Apple".
Environment Canada has discussed this problem with Microsoft; who was unable to determine if the problem is specific to either the Jet engine or the MDAC components being installed. Microsoft, however, believes that this problem will have a limited impact on users in the general population, including those of the NPRI software.
