Transport Canada plays an important role in many aspects of transportation. This page highlights some of the major issues we are addressing, and provides links to some important Government of Canada initiatives.

  • Advanced Technology Vehicles Program - Assesses vehicles with advanced and alternate technologies to measure their impact on safety, energy efficiency and the environment.
  • Airport Capital Assistance Program - A program to provide funding to eligible airports for projects related to safety, asset protection and reduction of operating costs.
  • Airport rent policy - this announcement is expected to result in close to $8 billion in rent relief for Canada’s airport authorities over the course of their existing leases as well as addressing the issue of inequity in the system.
  • Aviation War Risk Liability Program - The Government of Canada is providing a temporary indemnification for third-party aviation war risk liability for essential aviation service operators in Canada.
  • Canada Marine Act Review - The Report on the Review of the Canada Marine Act (CMA) was tabled in Parliament on June 4, 2003, in accordance with the requirements of section 144 of the Act. 
  • Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) Act Review - A full-time Secretariat has been established within Transport Canada to undertake the review of the provisions and the operation of the CATSA Act. The Secretariat will also have the responsibility of providing support to an Advisory Panel which was appointed by the Minister on November 23, 2005.

  • Government On-Line (GOL) project office - This site is dedicated to providing information on the GOL initiative, as well as highlight current and future on-line services.

  • Marine Security Contribution Program - A three-year, $115 million commitment from the Government of Canada to assist marine ports and facilities with their security enhancements.
  • Office of Boating Safety - Administers several marine safety regulations and conducts public education programs to enhance safety in Canada's navigable waters.
  • Pacific Gateway - The Government of Canada's investment in multimodal transportation infrastructure to enhance trade with emerging markets in the Asia - Pacific region.
  • Strategic Highway Infrastructure Program - Investing in Canada's highway infrastructure to provide a safer and more efficient highway system for all Canadians.
