Environmental Fear Factor

Environmental Fear Factor is an exciting 45 minute presentation by the EECO-Heroes (Environmental Educators of the Central Okanagan). The game is geared toward Middle and High school students and teaches environmental issues and solutions in the Central Okanagan. The game consists of 4 events including the Environmental Mind Grind trivia contest, the Crazy Carpool Challenge and the Amazing Kokanee Obstacle Race. The conclusion to this zany presentation is the dreaded Compost Guzzle. All games are exciting for both the participants as well as the audience.

Environmental Mind Grind

  • A jeopardy style game in which questions are based on water conservation, waste reduction, air quality, transportation demand management and watershed health.
  • Two rounds of seven questions each are asked.

Crazy Transit Challenge

  • A relay race where participants will transport themselves in a cardboard box around the gym.
  • Students will learn the importance of transit and car pooling in reducing vehicle emissions and improving air quality.

Amazing Kokanee Obstacle Race

  • A relay race where participants run an obstacle course in chest waders simulating different challenges faced by the spawning Kokanee salmon.
  • Students will learn about the ecology and lifecycle of Kokanee salmon.

Compost Guzzle

  • Game FINALE! A race where participants try to drink a Compost Shake consisting of fresh and canned vegetables faster then the other team.
  • Students will learn what can and can’t be composted and what can be done with the various packaging.

The game is seen as a fun way to get the students thinking about how they can Live Greener to help the environment and to foster a sense of stewardship in the community.
