Emergency Preparedness

Emergency PreparednessThe Central Okanagan Regional District Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program was initiated in 1999 and has been developed to prepare neighbourhood requirements in the event of a disaster.

Experience elsewhere has shown that after a major disaster emergency service response can be delayed for 72 hours or more. As a result residents should be prepared to take care of themselves for the first three days after an emergency.

Experience has also proven that neighbourhoods come together in a disaster. Neighbourhood meetings should be organized well in advance of any disaster to ensure that everyone has an idea of what to do in an emergency.

The Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program is focusing on individual and family preparedness, and working in conjunction with Neighbourhood Watch by using established neighbourhood boundaries. Click on the links below to obtain more information:
