GENERAL AVIATION POLICY LETTER

GA-1996-04
2000-12-11

Subject

TYPE DESIGNATOR - BH407

Reference

Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) Part IV, Subpart 1, Flight Crew Permits, Licences and Ratings, Division XI - Aircraft Type Ratings, 421.40 Blanket and Individual Type Ratings, Chart - Aircraft Type Designators, 2. Helicopter.

Background

Last summer the type designator B407 was added to the APLS table in accordance with the designator used by ICAO. After considerable discussion, Headquarters has determined that the designator BH407 would better suit our needs. Any licences issued with the former designator will be reissued to reflect the new designator BH407.

A proposal will be submitted to CARAC to add the following information to the Table in CAR 421.40, 2. Helicopters, under BELL Helicopters:

BH 407
Type Designator BH 407
Manufacturer - Model Bell 407
Number and Category of Engines 2 T
Minimum Crew 1

Action

Please use the designator BH407 when issuing a type rating for a Bell 407 helicopter.

Expiry

This Policy Letter will expire with the appropriate amendment to the CARs.
