VFR OVER-THE-TOP RATING - CREDITS

Reference

Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) Part IV, Subpart I, Personnel Licensing and Training Standards, 421 - Flight Crew Permit, Licences and Ratings, Division XIII - VFR Over-the -Top Rating, 421.44 - Requirements.

Background

At the 1997 Personnel Licensing Workshop the matter of applicants for a VFR OTT Rating who hold or have held an instrument rating was discussed. It was agreed that "Grandfather Rights" would be applied in these cases.

The proposal was agreed to at the June 5, 1997 CARAC meeting and will be submitted for amendment action with respect to CAR 421.44.

Action

Add the following new section to 421.44

  1. Credits

    An applicant for a VFR OTT rating who holds or has held a licence endorsed with an instrument rating shall be deemed to have met the Knowledge, Experience and Skill requirements specified above and shall be issued a VFR OTT rating upon request.

    No fee is to be charged for this rating.

Expiry

This Policy Letter will expire with the amendment of CAR 421.44.
