Subject
Time Limits - Written Examinations
Reference
Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) Part IV, Subpart 0 -
General, Division II - Examinations, Time Limits 400.03.
Background
A proposal has been submitted to and approved by CARAC as NPA 97-410 to amend the
time limit for written examinations in CAR 400.03(1). The proposed amendment simply
changes the number in CAR 400.03(1) from 12 months to 24 months.
Several Regions wanted to be able to use the longer period now rather than forcing
pilots to wait until the change was formally made to the Regulations. Headquarters
concurred and policy guidance was initially issued by e-mail on November 6, 1997.
This Policy Letter is a follow-up action to that e-mail.
Please note that this policy applies to written examinations only and not to flight
tests. The time limit for flight tests is still 12 months. An NPA
will be prepared for the next CARAC meeting to ensure that the 12 month limit for
flight tests is clearly stated in the Skill section for each permit and licence.
Action
NPA 97-410 which was approved by CARAC proposes an amendment to CAR 400.03(1)
by simply changing the number 12 to 24. Treat that proposal as if it had taken
effect on November 6, 1997.
Expiry
This Policy Letter will expire with the appropriate amendment to the CARs.
