GENERAL AVIATION POLICY LETTER

GA-1998-05
2000-12-11

Subject

EARLY REWRITE OF FLIGHT CREW WRITTEN EXAMINATIONS

Reference

Personnel Licensing Handbook (PLH), Volume 1, Part 1, Chapter 1, para. 3(e)

Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) Part IV, Subpart 0, Personnel Licensing and Training, Division II - Examinations, 400.04 Rewriting of Examinations.

Notice of Proposed Amendment NPA 97-088

Background

The provisions for early rewrite of flight crew examinations were previously found in the PLH and inadvertently omitted from the CARs.

NPA 97-088 addressing the Minister’s authority to reduce the interval between examination attempts has been accepted at the March 17, 1997 CARAC meeting and will rectify the omission from the CARs.

At the December 1997 Personnel Licensing Workshop (item 12-35) it was agreed that until the CAR amendment is in place the authority to adjust the time for rewriting examinations should be at the discretion of the Regional Superintendents.

Action

Effective immediately the Superintendents Personnel Licensing may under extenuating circumstances adjust the interval between examination attempts. Should the interval be reduced, evidence of further study or instruction shall be required prior to the next attempt.

Expiry

This Policy Letter will expire with the appropriate amendment to the CARs.
