New Seatbelt Regulations Will Help Protect Children
The Nova Scotia government is tackling the leading cause of injury and death for children by tightening up seat belt regulations.
The new regulations take effect Jan. 1, 2007 and will help parents choose the right kind of car seat, based on the size and age of their child. The government will work with groups like the IWK Health Centre’s Child Safety Link to promote the new regulations throughout the year. (more)

Staff from the Department of Transportation and Public Works visit schools throughout the winter season to talk to children about playing safe when snowplows are on the road.
Winter Safety Tips for Motorists
Prepare your vehicle for winter travel: check tires; wipers; washer fluid level; antifreeze; and heater/defroster.
Clear all snow off your vehicle.
Watch for black ice, it can form any time the temperature dips below five degrees Celsius.
