The CSA's Space Science Program receives proposals from researchers in universities, research organizations and industries across the country. These are most often in response to Announcements of Opportunities or Requests for Proposals regarding experiments or instrumentation within specific programs. Unsolicited proposals are also considered. Once a proposal has been accepted, the researcher(s) receive both financial and managerial assistance from the Space Science Program.
The overall terms of reference for each discipline area supported and/or managed by the Space Science Program are established through advice and recommendations generated by the Space Science Program's advisory committee structure. There are six advisory committees representing Space Environment, Atmospheric Environment, Space Astronomy, Space Exploration, Microgravity Sciences and Space Life Sciences. These committees make recommendations and provide advice to the Program in relation to research areas of priority and mechanisms utilized to select future projects to be supported. Note that further details as to the policy and guidelines of the Announcement of Opportunity process followed by the Space Science Program can be found below.
Proposals to be funded are selected through the Space Science Program's advisory committee structure. Established by the Program to give advice in each area of space science, five advisory committees represent Solar-Terrestrial Relations, Atmospheric Sciences, Space Astronomy, Microgravity Sciences and Space Life Sciences. These committees make recommendations to the program after assessing each proposal in terms of its scientific merit, technical feasibility, and commercial potential.
