SCISAT: Major Contractors and Sub-Contractors

SCISAT

Bristol Aerospace Limited - Bus

Bristol Aerospace Ltd, a division of Magellan Aerospace Corporation, is a diverse aerospace manufacturing company located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Bristol Aerospace Space Systems Group has been involved in producing space hardware for low-cost Canadian space missions for over 40 years. Bristol Aerospace Limited was selected for the development and construction of the SCISAT spacecraft bus.

Bristol built the spacecraft bus and was responsible for functional and environmental testing and for the integration of the FTS and MAESTRO instruments on the bus. Bristol integrated the spacecraft with the launcher vehicle and provided support to the CSA for the launch and for the operation of the spacecraft that is planned to last a minimum of 2 years.

ABB Bomem Inc

ABB-Bomem is the world leader in Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR)
spectroscopy for aerospace applications. ABB Bomem (now under ABB) is
the prime contractor of the main instrument of SCISAT, the ACE Fourier
Transform Spectrometer (FTS). The instrument was built to take a
variety of measurements in the Earth's stratosphere and troposphere to advance
scientist's understanding of ozone depletion.

After the successful completion, ABB Bomem delivered the FTS instrument to the CSA on September 2002, for the integration on the spacecraft bus.

MAESTRO

MAESTRO is made up of two modules: Optical Module and Electrical Unit.

EMS

EMS, a leading developer and manufacturer of advanced technology hardware products, is the prime contractor for the Electrical Unit and star tracker that is essential to the stability of the spacecraft. The Electronic Unit consists of the power supplies, the MAESTRO instrument controller, and two read-out electronics boards. EMS also fabricated the flight Optical Unit.

University of Toronto (U of T)

The University of Toronto designed and produced the flight software for the instrument, performed the software testing and the integration testing for the MAESTRO instrument. U of T was also responsible for characterization testing of both the MAESTRO and FTS instruments.
