CASI Charles Luttman Scholarship - Student must be intending to graduate in the calendar year after he or she receives the Scholarship.

CASI Elvie L. Smith Scholarship - Student must be intending to graduate in the calendar year in which he or she receives the Scholarship.

Nomination Procedure

The student should provide a short outline of his or her achievements in each of the three elements of technical achievement, professional ethics and fellowship. In addition, a statement about the goals the student has set for him(her)self should be included. Also required are three supporting narratives from faculty or community leaders, which should emphasize the student's achievements.

The Charles Luttman Scholarship

The Charles Luttman Scholarship is in recognition and honour of the outstanding and unique contributions made by Charles Luttman to the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute from its inception, for its first twenty years. He was the first Secretary of the Institute, a position which draws on the British tradition of being the "heart and soul" of the Institute itself (now the position of Executive Director). He built the foundation of the Institute on a belief in technical achievement, a commitment to professional ethics and an instinct for natural fellowship.

In recognition of these qualities, the Charles Luttman Scholarship is awarded annually to a student who is following a post-secondary degree or diploma course recognized by the Institute as a qualifying step towards Member status in CASI. To be eligible for the Charles Luttman Scholarship, the nominee must be intending to graduate in the calendar year after he or she receives the Scholarship.

The course shall be related in a clear way to the "Flight" aspects of aerospace studies. The student shall have demonstrated outstanding qualities of leadership and involvement in any area of student affairs, and excellence in communication and organizational skills.

The Award has monetary value as determined each year by the Council.

The Elvie L. Smith Scholarship

The Elvie L. Smith Scholarship is in recognition and honour of the outstanding and unique contributions made by Elvie L. Smith to the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute and to Canada's aerospace industry as a whole. A long-time Fellow of the Institute, Mr. Smith was the recipient of the McCurdy Award, the Institute's top honour in scientific and engineering areas of activity, and of the Institute's C.D. Howe Award, for outstanding management leadership in aeronautics. Mr. Smith, a former President and Chairman of Pratt & Whitney Canada, provided lasting benefits to Canadian aviation through his vision, dedication and leadership in the design, development and manufacture of gas turbine engines, in both the technical and managerial areas.

In recognition of these contributions, the Elvie L. Smith Scholarship is awarded annually to a student who is following a post-secondary degree or diploma course recognized by the Institute as a qualifying step towards Member status in CASI. To be eligible for the Elvie L. Smith Scholarship, the nominee must be intending to graduate in the calendar year in which he or she receives the Scholarship.

The Award has monetary value as determined each year by Pratt & Whitney Canada, sponsor of the Scholarship.
