Inviting a Canadian Astronaut to a Public Event |
|

The Canadian Space Agency offers opportunities to meet Canadian astronauts at public
events. These appearances help the CSA inform Canadians
about of
the benefits of space exploration and the applications for
space science and technology on Earth. Astronauts will speak
on many subjects, from how people live and work
in a microgravity environment to possible careers in the
science and the space industry.
Organizations interested in having a
Canadian astronaut as a guest-speaker or presenter at an event
should submit an
Invitation Form for a Canadian Astronaut to Attend a Public Event.
Limitations
Many requests are received for appearances at very worthy
events. However, the astronauts have full work schedules and
receive a large number of invitations to public events, so, only a limited number are approved each year.
According to Canadian Space
Agency policy, Canadian astronauts are not authorized to participate
in fundraising campaigns, support charitable organizations or lend
their names to sponsorship activities. Government of Canada
conflict of interest
guidelines preclude the astronauts from accepting fees or
remuneration for public engagements.
Schedules of the astronauts are
subject to last-minutes changes, and , although it happens only
rarely, may require changes to previously accepted public
engagements. Should this occur, the CSA will notify the organizations
affected as soon as possible and try to find another astronaut to
fill in. However, we strongly suggest that organizers always
line up an
alternate speaker.
Download
this form and fax it to the number below. Requests must be
submitted at least two, but not more than six, months prior to
the date of the event. No requests will be evaluated outside this period.
The evaluation process can
take three to six weeks, depending on the case.
