Request for Research Applications in Regenerative Medicine and Nanomedicine

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research and their partners are proud to announce a new orientation and a new partnership for the Regenerative Medicine and Nanomedicine: Innovative Approaches in Health Research. The Canadian Space Agency is helping to finance the funding of "New Discoveries: High-Risk Seed Grants" in keeping with the strategic objectives of its Space Life Sciences program.

This initiative gives enhanced support to research in the field of nanomedicine and technological development, gene therapy, stem cells, tissue engineering and rehabilitative sciences. Under this request for applications, support will be offered through Team Grants as well as New Discoveries: High-Risk Seed Grants. The additional partners' programs are also available as described in the June 2004 RFA announcement.

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) will be providing funding for "New Discoveries: High-Risk Seed Grants" in nanomedicine in the fields of diagnosis, biosensors and the production of technological components for scientific experiments in space. The Canadian Space Agency will also be supporting Earth-based "New Discoveries" research work aimed at developing tissue engineering applications in microgravity. In order to encourage a variety of innovative ideas, proposals relating to the field of tissue engineering in space will not be limited to particular niches.

The Canadian Space Agency, in conjunction with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, therefore invites Canadian researchers to submit proposals for research work in regenerative medicine and nanomedicine.

A maximum grant of $75,000 a year for two years will be awarded for the conduct of experiments. Interested parties must register by April 1, 2005. Complete proposals must be received by May 1, 2005.

For further details on all funding programs offered under the regenerative medicine and nanomedicine initiative, please consult the Request for Applications page.

Canadian researchers have expanded our knowledge of biology in microgravity. Please participate in this regenerative medicine and nanomedicine initiative. Your efforts can help us improve the quality of life in space and here on Earth.
