Wetlands reduce flood risk – World Conservation Union highlights wetland benefits

Wetlands play an important role in mitigating floods, as the Zambezi wetlands case study shows. Carried out by the World Conservation Union (IUCN) in the Zambezi basin in Namibia and Zambia, the study showcased that wetlands regulate the flow of water and thereby reduce the likelihood of floods downstream.
