The Remittance Advice is a form that provides the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy with the necessary information needed to ensure that payments are processed accurately, and are posted to the appropriate accounts in a timely manner.

As such, a Remittance Advice must accompany every payment. Please note, however, that no other documents are necessary (this includes Statements of Receipts & Disbursements–SRDs, which are to be sent to Division Offices only).

Please refrain from stapling cheques to the Remittance Advice, as this damages the cheques.

There are 4 sections to the Remittance Advice: the first three being imperative to all payment submissions, while the fourth section is to be completed only when submitting a payment as an Unclaimed Dividend. These 4 sections include:

  1. Estate Information:  If you are submitting several payments, a list may be attached to a single Remittance Advice, in which case one would write “see attached list” in lieu of the Estate Names.

  2. Trustee Information: Please provide the contact name, telephone and fax numbers that are associated with the person who can respond to questions about payment information. This person does not necessarily have to be the Trustee.

  3. Payment Information:  In order for a payment to be processed correctly, certain information about the payment is required. Payments must be associated with a Remittance Type (KC), as identified on the Remittance Advice. Please remember when submitting payments for Registration Fees (KC 341), that they are due on or before the 15th of the following month for any filing(s) occurring during the previous month1.

  4. Creditor Information:  This section is to be completed only if one is submitting payments for Unclaimed Dividends. If one is submitting Unclaimed Dividends for several estates, please ensure that Creditor Information is submitted accordingly, by Estate first, and not by Creditor.
