The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) accredits registration bodies to register their clients' Environmental Management Systems (EMS). Accreditation demonstrates that a registration body has met the necessary requirements to conduct registration to the EMS series of standards.

Environmental management is the practice of managing the impact of an organization's activities on the environment.

One of the best known families of environmental management systems is the ISO 14000 series, developed by the International Organization for Standardization.

The series does not provide specific environmental targets or describe ways of achieving them, since these will be different in every situation. Instead, the documents provide generic frameworks and general principles that can be applied to any organization of any size.

The Council also offers accreditation to registration bodies for specialized environmental management systems in industry specific areas, including sustainable forest management and hog operations.
