Millennium Development Goals
Act on the Millennium Development Goals. Do your part to make them happen.
IYIP is an employment program for young Canadians between the ages of 19-30. It offers post-secondary graduates the chance of a lifetime to gain international development work experience. The program is part of the Career Focus stream of the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy (YES) which gives young people the tools and experience they need to launch successful careers.

Objectives of CIDA’s International Youth Internship Program:

  • Provide underemployed or unemployed youth of Canada with a first paid career-related international work experience to prepare and position them for future employment.
  • Bridge the gap between formal education and a career.
  • Fully utilize, increase, and enhance the skills already acquired from formal education and previous experience (if any), and develop the qualifications required to succeed in a career with an international development focus. Essential skills include flexibility, inter-cultural effectiveness,

language skills and the ability to represent and showcase Canada’s multicultural perspective towards excellence and innovation.
  • Encourage the participation of youth representative of all regions across Canada.
  • Strengthen partnerships between CIDA, Canada-based organizations active internationally, and overseas institutions in order to promote sustainable development.

Youth Action manages CIDA's International Youth Internships. It also manages other programs for young people. Our goal is twofold. We want to make young people aware of global issues. We also want to encourage them to contribute to international cooperation.
