CFTS Project

The CFTS Project will provide for the re-tendering and implementation of a new generation of flying training support services for Primary, Multi-Engine and Helicopter pilot training programs conducted at 3 Canadian Forces Flying Training School (CFFTS), Southport Aerospace Centre, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

CFTS Contract Announcement

At an announcement ceremony 30 March 2005, the Minister of National Defence, the Hon Bill Graham, announced the government's intentions to proceed to award a contract for the Contracted Flying Training and Support to Kelowna Flightcraft (KFL). The announcement of the 22-year $1.77B contract was made jointly with the Min of Industry, The Hon David Emerson, at the Kelowna Flightcraft facility in Kelowna, BC to the members of the KFL Allied Wings team: Kelowna Flightcraft Ltd, Canadian Helicopters, Atlantis Systems Intl, Black & Macdonald, and Coastal Pacific Aviation. Allied Wings will provide 9 Grob G120A aircraft for Primary Flying Training and 7 Raytheon King Air C90B for Multi-engine Flying Training and convert 7 Bell 206 Jet Rangers and 9 Bell 412CF helicopters from CF inventory for Helicopter Flying Training. Full motion Flight Simulators will be installed to support the Multi-engine and Helicopter Flying Training programs. A new 80,000 sq ft Training Facility will be constructed at Southport which will provide full operational capability in a fully-equipped state-of-the art training environment within 24 months. Initial training will commence early in 2006 under interim arrangements, with special arrangements for continued helicopter training after Aug 2005.
