About DND CF

Support for Canada's youth

Defence supports the federal government's largest youth programs, the Canadian Cadet Movement and the Junior Canadian Rangers.

Every year, more than 60,000 young Canadians in every province and territory take part in Cadet activities. Defence works with the Navy League of Canada, the Army Cadet League of Canada and the Air Cadet League of Canada to operate dynamic programs for people 12 to 18 years old. The Canadian Cadet Movement helps young people develop attributes such as leadership, initiative, self confidence, teamwork, citizenship and physical fitness. International exchanges are also part of the program.

CF PhotoThe Junior Canadian Rangers Program targets 12- to 18-year-olds from isolated northern communities. It offers constructive activities and experiences that encourage self-esteem and develop community awareness. The Junior Canadian Rangers participate in a wide range of activities, including hunting, fishing, survival exercises, introduction to aboriginal spirituality, and instruction in local languages and traditional arts. They also learn first aid and Arctic navigation skills.
