In the December 2001 Budget, a further $600 million were committed over the fiscal years 2002-2006 to continue and expand the work on the GOL initiative: to implement the plans for building the common secure infrastructure and to sustain the transformation in service and business practices. As part of the incremental $600 million, notional allocations were identified for the following projects:

  • Gateways and Subject Clusters/Information Services: $66 million over four years.

  • Service Delivery Projects: A total of $164 million over four years for selected investments in the transformation of services in departments. This amount includes $1.8 million to support the development of a number of business cases to explore options for further service integration. These allocations were endorsed by the Deputy Minister committee (TIMS) responsible for GOL. There was no competitive process for new projects for this round of funding. Investments were focused on completing key projects already launched, involving commonly used services, and on making progress towards a more client-centred and "joined-up" vision of service delivery.

Incremental funding in the amount of $120 million for the 2001-2002 fiscal year has been provided for the Government On-Line (GOL) initiative.  These funds will support acceleration of on-line service delivery to Canadians. In March 2001, departments and agencies were invited to submit proposals to achieve this acceleration of on-line service delivery to support initiatives in three streams:

121 proposals were submitted. There were many strong proposals but not all could be funded.

The 2000 Federal Budget identified $160 million over two years to design and launch Government On-Line (GOL). Of that amount, approximately one third was set aside to fund projects that will facilitate cross departmental service integration, address horizontal policy issues or break new ground to help the government meet its 2005 commitment.

In July 2000 federal Departments and Agencies were invited to submit proposals for projects. The final selection of proposals for a total cost of $60 million, approved by the Deputy Minister committee (TIMS) responsible for GOL helped launch Government On-Line service transformation and integration efforts.
