Raised in Halifax during the First World War, No. 2 Construction Battalion, the only Canadian unit to be made up entirely of black soldiers, was sent to France to join the Canadian Forestry Corps. The Reverend William White kept a journal about his experiences as battalion chaplain. His grandson, Canadian actor and producer Anthony Sherwood, inspired by the journal, made a docudrama about the battalion entitled Honour Before Glory. It tells the story of these soldiers, who served Canada despite the racism prevalent at the time, and have been largely forgotten in the history of our country. Download the video (78 497KB).
