MARCHI ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS
TO EXPORT DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION BOARD
International Trade Minister Sergio Marchi today announced the re-appointments of Robert G. Wright and Pierre MacDonald, and the
appointment of Raymond C. Setlakwe to the Board of Directors of the Export Development Corporation (EDC).
The appointments are effective immediately.
EDC is the only Canadian financial institution devoted exclusively to providing trade finance services in support of Canadian exporters and
investors in up to 200 countries. Founded in 1944, EDC is a Crown corporation that operates as a commercial financial institution.

Backgrounder
BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
Pierre MacDonald is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MacD Consult Inc., a group of consultants in international finance and marketing.
He is also Chairman of the board of Eurocopter Canada Ltd., Vice-Chairman of the board of Eco-Ads International, and a director of several
large Canadian firms. Previously, Mr. MacDonald was Senior Vice-President of the Bank of Montreal in charge of Eastern Canada. In 1985 he
was elected to the Quebec National Assembly, where he served as Minister of External Trade and Technology.
Raymond C. Setlakwe is President and Chief Executive Officer of A. Setlakwe Ltée, a Thetford Mines-based department store founded in 1904
with 17 outlets throughout Quebec. He is also President and Chief Executive Officer of Saint-Hilaire Inc., an import business specializing in
ready-to-wear men's and women's clothing from Europe, Asia and the United States. Mr. Setlakwe is a member of the board of Sintra, Unindal,
and the Conseil québécois du commerce de détail, and has served as a member of the board of Hydro-Québec.
Robert G. Wright has served as Deputy Minister for International Trade since December 1995. Mr. Wright began his career with the federal
government in 1971 as a trade policy officer in the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce. In the same department, he served as Chief of
the Western Europe Division and Director of the Pacific Trade Relations Division. In the Department of External Affairs and International Trade,
he has served as: Director of the GATT Division, Minister (Economic) and Deputy of the Canadian delegation to the Uruguay Round in Geneva;
and Director-General of the U.S. Trade and Economic Policy Bureau. Prior to being appointed Deputy Minister, he was Minister (Economic) at
the Canadian Embassy in Washington.
