VIETNAMESE FOREIGN MINISTER VISITS CANADA

Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham today welcomed the Foreign Affairs Minister of Vietnam, Nguyen Dy Nien, who will be visiting Ottawa and Quebec City from September 17 to 20, 2003. His visit coincides with the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"Canada's relations with Vietnam have progressed considerably in the last 30 years," said Minister Graham. "I look forward to exploring ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the areas of good governance and trade."

In Ottawa, Minister Nien will meet International Cooperation Minister Susan Whelan and several parliamentarians and in Quebec City he will meet Philippe Couillard, Quebec's Minister of Health and Social Services.

Canada provides approximately $26 million in development assistance to Vietnam annually directed toward transparent and accountable governance, agriculture and rural development, and education.
