CANADA CONDEMNS TERRORIST BOMBINGS IN TURKEY
Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham strongly condemned the explosions that took place in Istanbul today, which took the
lives of dozens of people including the British Consul General Roger Short. It was the second such attack in less than a
week.
"Canadians everywhere deplore these appalling and depraved acts of terror," said Minister Graham. "Canada extends its
deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims, to the family of Roger Short, and to the Turkish and
British peoples. This horrific attack demonstrates the continued need to work together with the international community
against all such acts of violence."
Consular officials at the Canadian embassy in Ankara and at the consulate in Istanbul are in continuous contact with the
appropriate authorities and hospitals. At this time, we have no reports of any Canadians among the victims.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) encourages anyone who believes Canadian friends or
relatives were in the immediate areas where these incidents occurred to call 1-800-387-3124 or in the Ottawa/Gatineau area
(613) 996-8885.
