CANADIAN WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS: GOING PLACES!

International Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew announced today that a live video conference promoting women exporters will take place across Canada on March 8, 2001 in celebration of International Women's Day.

"I am happy to recognize the achievements of the entrepreneurs showcased in this event," said Minister Pettigrew. "We are committed to supporting women entrepreneurs in their efforts to tap into global market opportunities."

Canadian women business owners are selling their products and services all over the world. March 8, International Women's Day, provides an opportunity to promote their successes and to encourage others to consider exporting.

During an exciting coast-to-coast live video conference, audience members will hear from successful women exporters in eight cities across Canada. They will share their stories, best practices and advice to women business owners interested in exporting. The guest speakers, from St. John's to Vancouver, will provide insight into the hurdles of selecting and developing an export market, the cultural issues involved in conducting business abroad and will discuss how to handle export risks.

Speakers at this event will include:

Pamela Grof, InterVisual - Calgary

Cindy Roma, Telelink -- The Call Centre - St. John's

Aldea Landry, Landal Inc. - Moncton

Monique Compagna, Les Pliages Apaulo - Montreal

Sharlyn Ayotte, T-Base Communications - Ottawa

Dianne Waterhouse, Round Top Windows, Toronto

Linda Graupner, Director of Financial Services for Small Enterprises, Export Development Corporation - Toronto

This event has been co-sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and Export Development Corporation. It has also been made possible through the efforts of many local champions.
