ISRAELI RESEARCH CENTRE DEDICATED TO EGGLETON

The Honourable Art Eggleton, Minister for International Trade, today was honoured by the Technion -- Israel Institute of Technology by way of a research centre which will bear his name. The Art Eggleton Canadian Centre for Molecular Medicine Research is located at the Institute's Rappaport Faculty of Medicine in Haifa, Israel.

Mr. Eggleton is currently leading a Canadian business delegation to Israel to pursue business opportunities. He is scheduled to tour the Technion facilities and meet with their scientific, high-tech and medical staff.

"I am deeply honoured by Technion's gesture to dedicate this research centre in my name," said Mr. Eggleton. "It is a privilege to be associated with a technological institute that holds such an international reputation for excellence."

Technion is Israel's premier institute of technology, specializing in engineering, scientific and medical research.

The Canadian Technion Society will host a formal ceremony of dedication to Mr. Eggleton at a tribute dinner on June 1, 1997, in Toronto.

TECHNION -- ISRAEL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

NAMES RESEARCH CENTRE AFTER CANADA'S

MINISTER FOR INTERNATIONAL TRADE ART EGGLETON

Mr. Arnold Recht, National President of the Canadian Technion Society, today announced that a research centre at the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine at the Technion -- Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel, will be dedicated to the Honourable Art Eggleton, Minister for International Trade. A formal acknowledgement will be made to Mr. Eggleton at a tribute dinner on June 1, 1997, in Toronto.

Mr. Eggleton is currently leading a 50-member Canadian business delegation to Israel to pursue business opportunities. As part of his visit, he will tour the Technion Campus and meet with members of the medical, scientific and high-tech staff.

"Mr. Eggleton's hard work and determination made the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement a reality," said Mr.Recht. His constant support for the Canadian Jewish community also makes him a natural choice for such an honour."

The Art Eggleton Canadian Centre for Molecular Medicine Research has as its priority studies and research in molecular biotechnology. The Centre is based at Technion's Faculty of Medicine and the related Rambam Hospital and forms a clinical and research health care infrastructure working in partnership with Technion's existing engineering and research facilities.

Technion -- Israel Institute of Technology is Israel's premier technological university. Since its establishment in 1924, it has gained an international reputation for excellence in a wide range of engineering, scientific and medical research and uses a multi-disciplinary approach.

The Canadian Technion Society is dedicated to the advancement of Technion, and its members and supporters aid the University's development through a variety of projects and fundraising.
