MARCHI TO MEET U.S. COMMERCE SECRETARY DALEY
DURING TRADE MISSION TO CANADA
International Trade Minister Sergio Marchi will meet United States Commerce
Secretary William Daley on August 5 as the Secretary leads a trade delegation of
small and medium-sized businesses to Canada.
Mr. Daley's visit will focus on the strong opportunities for small and medium-sized U.S. firms to forge strategic alliances and partnerships with Canadian
companies, particularly in the high-technology sector.
"I am very pleased that Secretary Daley and the trade delegation continue to view
the Canadian market as a priority for broadening trade links," said Mr. Marchi.
"We agree that small and medium-sized firms are important engines of economic
growth in North America. Anything we can do to encourage new joint ventures and
investment will generate jobs for citizens on both sides of the border."
Minister Marchi and Secretary Daley will also discuss a variety of trade and
investment issues, such as U.S. fast-track authority for trade negotiations, the
Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation Leaders' meeting in November and various
bilateral trade concerns.
Secretary Daley and the delegation of 16 U.S. companies will visit Montreal on
August 4 and 5, Ottawa on August 5 and Toronto on August 6. Secretary Daley will
also visit Vancouver on August 7.
