NEW ZEALAND MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND TRADE
AND MINISTER OF JUSTICE TO VISIT CANADA
Foreign Affairs Minister Lloyd Axworthy today announced that New Zealand's Minister of Foreign Affairs and
Trade and Minister of Justice, the Honourable Phil Goff, will be visiting Ottawa September 10-12, 2000.
The ministers will discuss regional security, with a particular focus on recent developments in the Democratic
People's Republic of Korea, East Timor, Indonesia, Fiji and the Solomon Islands. They will also exchange
views on nuclear disarmament and peacekeeping.
"Canada and New Zealand co-operate in a number of international forums to foster stability in the Asia Pacific
region," said Mr. Axworthy. "I look forward to meeting with Mr. Goff to discuss ways in which our countries can
collaborate on human security issues."
In addition to the bilateral meeting, Minister Axworthy and Mr. Goff will participate in a roundtable discussion on
human security followed by a meeting with Canadian non-governmental organizations to gain their perspectives
on related topics.
Minister Goff will also visit the RCMP Technical and Protective Operations Facilities in Gloucester, Ontario, for
a demonstration of the LAV3, a Canadian-made light armoured vehicle used in peacekeeping operations.
