CANADA REGRETS INDIAN MISSILE TEST
Minister of Foreign Affairs Bill Graham today expressed his regret over the recent Indian test of an Agni-II intermediate
range ballistic missile.
"These missiles, which are capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, have been tested in spite of international calls for an end
to India's nuclear weapons and missile programs," stated Minister Graham. "Canada remains concerned about nuclear
proliferation in South Asia, which we regard as a threat to international security. This test risks exacerbating the already
high regional tensions, and I call on all states in the region to exercise restraint."
Canada supports United Nations Security Council Resolution 1172 of June 6, 1998, which condemns nuclear testing carried
out by India and Pakistan.
