PETTIGREW ANNOUNCES FUNDS FOR
B.C. EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS
International Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew is pleased to announce that projects submitted by the University College of
the Cariboo, Kamloops, and Capilano College, North Vancouver, have been selected for funding under the Development of
International Business Studies Program. The Program's seed funding, provided over three years, aims to assist academic
institutions in offering high quality international business training.
"We recognize the important contribution that Canadian universities and colleges make to our prosperity," said Mr.
Pettigrew. "The University College of the Cariboo and Capilano College will play an active role in training today's and
tomorrow's exporters, and will make Canadian industry more competitive around the globe."
The University College of the Cariboo will develop and implement a new degree with specialization in the global business
environment, focusing on the skills, knowledge and drive needed to succeed internationally. Capilano College will develop
capacity-building classroom and on-line material from a Canadian perspective, focusing on the emerging markets of Asia
and Latin America.
The other institutions that were selected are:
• University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta
• University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta
• Saskatchewan Indian Federated College, Regina, Saskatchewan
• Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Ontario
• Collège Boréal, Sudbury, Ontario
• École de technologie supérieure, Montreal, Quebec
• École des Hautes Études Commerciales, Université de Montréal, Montreal, Quebec
• University of Moncton, Moncton, New Brunswick
