JUNIOR TEAM CANADA LEAVES FOR CHINA AND THE PHILIPPINES
A group of 36 young Canadians will embark tomorrow on a Junior Team Canada trade mission to China and the
Philippines, where they will explore new trade opportunities and further enhance business ties between Canada and these
major Asian markets.
"These young Canadians are not only enhancing trade with some of our largest export markets, they're building ties and
developing relationships that will last a lifetime," said Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific) David Kilgour, who is currently in
Asia and will head the Junior Team Canada mission in China.
The Junior Team Canada program gives Canadians aged 16 to 25 from across the country opportunities to gain experience
by acting as consultants for exported-oriented small and medium-sized Canadian businesses. The program is dedicated to
securing Canada's continued success in the international marketplace by expanding the skills and knowledge of a new
generation of Canadian business leaders.
Participants met in Ottawa for orientation before heading to Shanghai, where they will take part in several business and
networking events. The mission will include stops in Guangzhou, southern China's largest industrial city and port of trade,
Shenzhen, an important industrial base for foreign trade, and Hong Kong. The mission will wrap up in Manila.
