CANADA-RUSSIA STATEMENT ON IRAQ
Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham and Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Igor Ivanov today issued the
following statement:
"The threat of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction is a matter of serious international concern. Canada and Russia
applaud the UN Security Council's unanimous approval of Resolution 1441 and pledge our full support for the
implementation of that Resolution. Iraq must comply fully and immediately with this and all relevant UN Security Council
resolutions, with a view to securing international peace and security.
"Canada and Russia will firmly support and render all necessary assistance for the efforts of the UN Monitoring,
Verification and Inspection Commission Chairman and the International Atomic Energy Agency Director General to enable
them to fulfil their important responsibilities under UN Security Council resolutions.
"We call on Iraq to comply fully and unconditionally with its disarmament obligations under UNSC Resolution 1441 and to
create the necessary conditions for inspectors to carry out their mission, or it will face serious consequences."
