PETTIGREW - IN BELGIUM

Media representatives are advised that International Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew will travel to Belgium on Thursday, January 9. In Brussels, Mr. Pettigrew will have meetings related to investment projects. Following a meeting with the European press, Minister Pettigrew will discuss the Kimberley Process, the evolution of various WTO files, and the Doha Round with Annemie Neyts, the Belgian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, responsible for trade policy. Mr. Pettigrew will then travel to Antwerp, where he will meet with Peter Meeus, Director General of the Diamond High Council, along with representatives of Aber and Rio Tinto, the firms that are developing the Diavik mine project in the Northwest Territories. Mr. Pettigrew will also meet with representatives of BHP Billiton Diamonds, majority owner of the already operational Ekati diamond mine, also in the Northwest Territories.
