Pettigrew - Visit to Washington

Media representatives are advised that International Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew will visit Washington, D.C., on
February 4 and 5, 2003. Minister Pettigrew will participate in events marking the opening of the 108th United States
Congress. On February 4, Minister Pettigrew will meet with United States Secretary of Commerce, Donald Evans, to
discuss various bilateral trade and economic issues, including the softwood lumber dispute. Later that day, Minister
Pettigrew will chair a round table discussion at the Woodrow Wilson International Center on the theme of "Liberalism and
the Global Market Economy."
On February 5, Minister Pettigrew will meet with United States Trade Representative Robert Zoellick to discuss bilateral
trade issues and the multilateral trade agenda. He will also speak on "The U.S.-Canada Trade Partnership in the
21st Century" at a breakfast hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian American Business Council. In
addition, Mr. Pettigrew will attend a luncheon for CEOs and business leaders, hosted by the President and CEO of the U.S.
Chamber of Commerce. Finally, the Minister will attend Canada Day events in the morning and afternoon on Capitol Hill.
