KNUTSON TO LEAD TRADE MISSION TO BULGARIA AND TURKEY
Media representatives are advised that Secretary of State (Central and Eastern Europe and Middle East) Gar Knutson will
lead a trade mission to Bulgaria and Turkey, May 18 to 23, 2003, to assist Canadian businesses in exploring and developing
commercial opportunities in both countries. Over 20 companies from across the country will investigate trade and
investment opportunities in a number of sectors including aerospace, energy, mining, information and communications
technology, agriculture and food products, health, construction, infrastructure and transportation.
On May 19 and 20, in Sofia, Mr. Knutson will meet with members of the Bulgarian government. As well, on May 19, he
will deliver an address at a plenary session and at a meeting of the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria.
On May 21, in Istanbul, Mr. Knutson will deliver an address at a plenary session where panel discussions will focus on the
business environment in Turkey. Later, he will attend a business luncheon hosted by the Turkish-Canadian Business
Council.
On May 22, following a breakfast round table with Canadian investors in Turkey, Mr. Knutson will travel to Ankara, where
he will meet with the Minister of Finance. On May 23, he will deliver an address at a plenary session in which the Turkish
Minister responsible for Foreign Trade will take part. The panel discussion at this session will address the question of
financing projects in Turkey and the region. Secretary of State Knutson will also meet with the ministers of Transport and
Communications, and of Energy and Natural Resources.
