LAUNCH OF CANADA'S FIRST UNITED NATIONS HUMANITARIAN APPEAL

Media representatives are advised that Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham and International Cooperation Minister Susan Whelan will host Canada's first launch of a United Nations Humanitarian Appeal on Wednesday, November 19, 2003. The Ottawa event follows the global Humanitarian Appeal to be issued in New York today by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Ottawa was selected, along with Brussels, Copenhagen, Dublin, Geneva and Washington, for satellite events in support of the 2004 Consolidated Appeals Process. The Canadian launch will focus on West Africa.
