MANLEY - TO ATTEND G-8, ASEAN MEETINGS - PAGTAKHAN - TO ATTEND ASEAN MEETINGS
John Manley, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will be in Rome, Italy on July 18 and 19, to participate
in the G-8 Foreign Ministers meeting. Minister Manley will be in Hanoi, Vietnam, July 24 to 27,
to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Forum Meeting and
Post-Ministerial Conference. Dr. Rey Pagtakhan, Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific), will join
Minister Manley in Hanoi.
Issues on the agenda for the G-8 Foreign Ministers meeting include non-proliferation, arms
control and disarmament, conflict prevention and counter-terrorism. G-8 Foreign Ministers will
also discuss regional issues of international concern, such as the Balkans, Africa and the Middle
East.
The ASEAN Regional Forum is the premier multilateral forum in the Asia-Pacific region
dealing with peace and security issues. The Post-Ministerial Conference, held after the
ASEAN meeting each year, provides the opportunity for exchanges on regional and
global concerns, such as Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC), international
trade, human rights and regional security.
